Calligraphy (shodô) is at the core of Japanese culture, just like the alphorn for the Swiss people. Although handwriting, and especially brush writing, is becoming less important in Japan, the tradition of shodô is still deeply rooted in Japanese culture. Many Japanese say, with a tone of regret, that they would like to be better at the use of the brush.
Atsushi Nojima, who lives in Switzerland since 1997, publishes the newspaper “Grüezi” for Japanese people living in Switzerland.
